This year is shaping up to be a very busy one for traveling. I’ve got quite a few short getaways on the calendar with one big trip in the works over the holidays. After having a long hiatus of traveling, I’m taking some time before my first trip to reevaluate my travel gear to see what might need to be replaced, what I might need that I don’t already own, and perhaps upgrade a few items.
Luggage: I own currently one piece of luggage, a black carryon that I’ve had since high school. While it is in good condition, it only has two wheels, and I often find myself wishing it had four to easily wheel it through airports and on sidewalks. I’ve had my eye on Away’s The Carry-On but have yet to bite the bullet. I will be traveling back to NYC in the next few weeks and plan on popping into their NoHo store to check them out.
Packing Cubes: As a self proclaimed master packer, I only recently used packing cubes for the first time. Let me just say, what a game changer!! I shared one suitcase with my boyfriend on a week long road trip in Florida, and while his method was to throw everything in the suitcase, I kept my sanity by designating one large packing cube for his clothing, and one for mine. I was shocked at how much I could fit into the cube without squishing anything, and it all came out wrinkle free. Because I love things to match, I would love to get packing cubes in the same color I end up choosing for my carry-on.
TSA Liquids Bag: One big stressor I had when traveling in the past is the hated restriction of a single quart-size ziplock bag. I would overstuff it and then pray that it didn’t burst open in my bag or while going through security checkpoints. If you still use a ziplock bag, do yourself a favor and buy a TSA approved reusable quart-size bag. I’ve been using Blue Avocado’s zippered pouch for years, and while it is very handy and sturdy, I am not in love with the fact that it isn’t clear and find myself digging through it to find products hidden on the bottom. I’ve read multiple rave reviews about Truffle’s Clarity Clutch in small, and I’m curious to see if it holds just as much as my current bag.
Makeup and Toiletries Bag: If you are like me you have had what feels like a million different makeup and toiletry bags over the years. Thankfully I’ve finally found what works for me when it comes to how much makeup and essentials to bring on a trip. I’ve currently been using mismatched bags but I would like to upgrade to a set that matches. I’ve been eyeing Cuyana’s Leather Travel Case Set. The small seems to be the perfect size for my travel makeup stash, and the larger one can hold all the other essentials that I can’t leave home without.
I would love to hear your opinions if you have purchased any of these items or about your fav travel gear you can’t live without.
