It wasn’t hard to put together this list of fall coats because basically I want every single one! Perhaps a bit much? I can feel fall around the corner already where I am, which just makes it more glaringly apparent that I need a proper fall coat in my life.
At the moment my wardrobe consists of either jackets that are layered with a sweater to stay warm or a winter coat with a tshirt. Although I can get by with these options, it would be nice to have a coat that is really in-between these two that can take me from a slight chill down to right before it dips to freezing temps. I’ve also been looking to stay within colors of off-white to camel because I just have too many black pieces in my wardrobe and I’m looking to add some versatility to my color palette. And, confession time, I want a fall coat that will pair well with my Chanel purse that admittedly doesn’t get much use (because of possible color transfer with darker clothing) and my new Louis Vuitton Croisette. So let’s dive into some great fall coats!
TAILORED
I’m a sucker for a beautifully tailored coat and all three of these options hit the mark.
1.) First up is the Sézane Johnson Coat. Sézane is a brand a bit new to me and I’m really loving their French cool girl aesthetic. I like the slimmer cut to this coat resembling more of a long blazer with pockets that are a bit more hidden and classic horn buttons.
2.) The Curated recently came on my radar and I am obsessed! Is it a bit crazy that I want every coat in multiple colors? Their more tailored option is The London Coat. With 30% organic cashmere and 70% merino wool, this coat is going to be both warm and soft.
3.) I bet already on your radar is the brand Everlane. Their pricing is more affordable than the first two options while still offering a well made coat. It’s composed of 62% recycled wool and 38% nylon, so sure to be warm while also making you feel warm inside that they are implementing better production practices.
WRAP
The wrap style is new to me and when I showed my husband the examples above he said they look like a bath robe. I’m not so sure that is a bad thing. Being wrapped in warmth while also looking incredibly chic? Seems like a win-win to me!
4.) Up again is The Curated. Their Tailored Coat is in-between their London and Classic Coat. It’s got that tailored feel to it while being a bit roomier and looks great belted, perfect for those who want a mix between a tailored and wrap style.
5.) And no surprise its The Curated. This is their Classic Coat, which comes in 8 different color options and is the same organic cashmere and merino wool blend as the other two mentioned. It is more of the classic wrap coat with deep pockets that will make it easy to keep your hands warm in chilly weather. With so many options it can be hard to decide but there is something about the Bone color that is calling my name.
6.) Jenni Kayne has that California cool aesthetic down to an art and this coat is no exception. Though it is a bit pricer than the other two options, I wanted to include this because not only is it a beautiful coat but, like the other brands, Jenni Kayne is focused on slow fashion.
TRENCH
With a trench being such a classic wardrobe staple how do I not have one in my life? I’ve had a few on my radar but I honestly can’t decide between the classic style with buttons or a version without that more closely resembles a wrap coat style.
7.) I’m not sure if its the coat itself or the styling in the photos, but Sézane’s Scott Trench screams all things French to me. It reminds me of a trench I bought on my first trip to Paris and I was obsessed with it. This has the classic style without seeming too stuffy or stiff.
8.) Cuyana is another brand that I literally want everything on their site! Their take on the trench feels more modern to me and I really enjoy their attention to details and quality tailoring.
9.) Reformation’s Holland Trench has a more relaxed cut with the classic double-breasted style. I like that it comes in two shades – a more classic tan called Camel and a richer tan hue called Brown. This hits the mark for me if I am want a more oversized roomier look.
RAIN
Never is it more obvious I need a proper rain coat than when I am out and about running errands or traveling and the skies have opened up for a torrential downpour. When I’m hiking I have my trusty Patagonia completely waterproof, nothing is getting through that sucker jacket. But let’s be real, its not the chicest and most fashionable option. So on my list is to find a rain coat that is both fashionable and functional – not an easy ask.
10.) Everlane always seems to offer me a coat or jacket option of something I didn’t realize I need until I go searching for it. Their ReNew Anorak is water-resistant, lightweight and made from plastic bottles – what more could you want?
11.) Another great coat option from Cuyana. The Pleat-Back Anorak offers water-resistant fabric, delicate gold detailing and that perfect mix of sporty and dressy. I would love if they had a tan or camel color but the Olive is a great second option.
12.) A new brand to me is Ecoalf, a Spanish brand that is dedicated to producing sustainable fashion. Their Niagara raincoat is waterproof and made from 44% recycled polyester. This style is a bit sportier to me but such a great option and I also have my eye on a few of their other coat styles.
I hope this roundup helps in your fall coat hunt and gave you a starting point to find a great option from brands that practice slow fashion and/or sustainability. I’d love to hear from you and get some suggestions of other coats or your opinion if you’ve previously bought one of the coats mentioned above.
